Publishing a CS2 finish is not the same as official selection
A published Workshop finish is a submission, not proof that Valve selected it or that you own a new tradable item in CS2. Separate the authoring preview, publication and any later selection process. Before deciding to publish, review the work’s originality, technical evidence and description without promising acceptance, a case slot or payment.

Editor preview
A local authoring result
Public submission or ownership
Workshop publication
A submitted work is visible as published
Official selection
Later Valve selection
A separate review outcome
A guaranteed timeline for every author
For example, a successful preview is useful evidence for a material test. It is not evidence that an inventory item was created. Likewise, a visible submission or a number of votes does not prove a confirmed place in an official case.
A check diagram, not a game screen.
Use the current CS2 authoring context
Valve’s current technical guide describes installing CS2 Workshop Tools through the game’s options and launching the tools to reach Workshop Item Tools and the editor. Inspecting or previewing a selected item remains separate from publishing it.
Do not present an older workshop command as the confirmed current route. The first-finish guide covers the initial task, but this article’s focus is the prepublication review. Keep the actual current tools and the exact stage visible in your notes instead of merging preparation and release into one ambiguous success claim.
Check originality before presentation polish
Use original artwork and material you are entitled to submit. Do not trace or alter a found image and treat the result as automatically original. Review branding, promotional content and potentially offensive material against the official Workshop guidance.
This is a practical source check, not a legal ruling about an individual work. Retain your own design and source records privately where appropriate. An appealing preview does not establish rights to a logo or image. Removing obvious branding is not a substitute for understanding the origin of the remaining artwork.
Keep technical evidence clear and current
Review the material under useful views and lighting, recording which inputs and conditions produced the images. The lighting guide provides a comparison principle; the before-and-after board guide suggests an organized presentation structure.
Valve’s Workshop FAQ contains legacy VTF and DXT instructions associated with older workflows. Do not copy them as verified current CS2 export-format requirements. Use the current technical guide and supported editor fields rather than inventing an import procedure, file path or universal format rule from an older FAQ section.
Describe the selection boundary honestly
The Workshop guidance distinguishes creating and publishing qualifying content from Valve reviewing and potentially selecting it. Later contact, integration and testing belong to that separate process. Publication is not an acceptance certificate, and community votes do not guarantee that outcome.
Do not quote an invented current royalty percentage, promise a review date or imply that buying something improves selection. The item-type guide helps keep a design submission distinct from an owned item. A Workshop page does not itself confer a tradable weapon or establish its market price.
Finish the review without making publication automatic
Your review note should identify the authoring stage, originality checks, current technical evidence and any unresolved question. A deliberate decision not to publish yet is different from an editor failure. This guide does not upload a work or send messages to Valve on your behalf.
If comparing submissions with another visual record, use the catalog-versus-instance guide to keep image roles explicit. The completed task is a correctly scoped submission review. It is not guaranteed selection, rights clearance, compensation or a promise that a design has already entered the game.

Questions and answers
What you should know before you begin.
Does publishing create a tradable skin for me?
No. A Workshop submission and ownership of an in-game item are different states.
Do votes guarantee official selection?
No. Publication and community votes do not guarantee Valve selection or integration.
Should I copy every older FAQ export instruction?
No. Distinguish legacy workflow details from the current CS2 technical guide and editor support.
