Read the exterior first
The standard exterior labels are Factory New, Minimal Wear, Field-Tested, Well-Worn and Battle-Scarred. Their abbreviated forms are FN, MW, FT, WW and BS. These labels describe wear, not weapon damage, rarity or a guaranteed resale value.
| Exterior | Valve wear range reference |
|---|---|
| Factory New | 0.00–0.07 |
| Minimal Wear | 0.07–0.15 |
| Field-Tested | 0.15–0.37 |
| Well-Worn | 0.37–0.44 |
| Battle-Scarred | 0.44–1.00 |
These are reference ranges from Valve’s finish guide. At a boundary, use the actual item’s recorded exterior rather than rounding a displayed decimal yourself. A particular finish may support only part of the overall range.
Compare the copy, not just the label
Two Field-Tested listings can differ visibly. Open an inspect view where available and compare the areas you actually notice while playing: receiver, magazine, barrel and prominent artwork. A store thumbnail may represent the finish generally rather than your exact copy.
Keep three notes beside each candidate: exact market name, verified exterior and whether the image is specific to that item. An appealing generic image is useful for discovering a design; it is weaker evidence for the condition of one listing.
What wear cannot tell you
Wear alone does not identify a pattern, prove a price premium or establish a fair market price. Do not assign a precise float from an exterior name. Our directory does not currently provide verified float values for individual copies.
If your decision depends on a very specific float or visual pattern, stop at discovery until the seller provides item-specific evidence. A cheaper exterior can be a reasonable cosmetic choice when you prefer its appearance; there is no universal rule that the cleanest version is the best value.
Use this on CaseCS2
Browse the skin directory to identify names and available exterior variants, then read the float guide. Directory observations may be historical, and displayed availability is not a promise that a supplier can deliver now.
Before comparing offers, match weapon, finish, exterior and special naming prefixes. Record the observation date and currency. That small checklist prevents comparing a Factory New entry with a Field-Tested entry as though they were interchangeable.
