Skin selection and inspection

Same exterior, different floats

An exterior label groups different float values. Two listings with the same label still need individual inspection.

Exterior groups items; float adds detail

Two items sharing an exterior label can have different float values. That numerical difference alone does not tell you which example you will prefer. First match weapon, finish and variant: do not quietly mix an ordinary item with StatTrak. Use exterior for the initial shortlist, followed by exact float and inspection for individual candidates. This keeps a category label from becoming an unsupported visual judgment.

Compare two nearby examples

Choose two listings with the same exterior label and different floats. You do not need extreme values or an advance declaration that one is better. Save the playing views, then enlarge the area most important to you. If the desired artwork is equally readable on both, additional float precision may have little practical value for your choice. When a difference is visible, describe the difference itself.

Keep other attributes consistent

Match model, finish, variant, image scale and lighting during this comparison. Applied stickers and custom names can distract from the surface, so account for them separately. A generic catalog illustration for one candidate and individual inspection for another are unequal evidence. Obtain an inspection of the first candidate or leave it out of the final visual comparison until the missing information is supplied. Avoid interpreting a thumbnail as an exact specimen.

Record why you prefer an example: readable lettering, suitable artwork or a cleaner visible edge. 'Lower float' describes a number but not your visual goal. Read the float guide for background and use the finder to shortlist designs before comparing individual listings.

A numerical example without invented listings

The teaching values 0.18 and0.32 both lie inside Valve’s documented Field-Tested range. Their difference 0.14 describes numbers only, not price, pattern or visual inspection quality.
