Skin selection and inspection

Metallic finishes: review light and reflections

A reflective finish is easy to misjudge from one image. Check whether the appearance you like survives a different angle and lighting.

Distinguish a highlight from the artwork

On a reflective finish, a bright screenshot area can be a reflection rather than permanent coloration. Request several angles in one scene before choosing. Do not describe a favorable highlight as an unchanging gold or white stripe. Valve's reflectivity documentation offers material background but cannot establish one specimen's appearance under every playing condition. The final visual evidence should come from the candidate's own consistent views.

Use a rotation series instead of one cover

Save a direct view, a small rotation and the usual playing position. Keep the scene unchanged so lighting changes do not become mixed with model rotation. Observe which elements move or substantially change brightness and which remain part of the artwork. Review fine lettering separately because strong light can reduce readability. That is an observation about the particular angle, not automatically a universal defect of the item or finish.

A false permanent accent example

Suppose a cover shows a bright longitudinal stripe that motivates your choice. During rotation it disappears or changes position. Your preference then depends on a reflection in one scene. Check whether the item still appeals without that effect and in the normal playing position. If so, it can remain suitable. Otherwise seek artwork with a genuine color accent visible in several comparable images rather than a single favorable presentation frame.

Do not identify material from a photograph alone; describe the visible effect when data are unclear. Read the lighting guide. Discover designs in the finder, then obtain individual views rather than assuming one promotional cover remains representative.
