Weapon model names: keep similar records separate

Similar weapon names do not make items interchangeable. Preserve the exact model before the finish name in searches and comparison tables.

The model is an essential part of identity

A finish search starts with the exact weapon model. Similar labels and shared title words do not make models interchangeable. Preserve hyphens, numbers and other meaningful parts when copying names into a spreadsheet. Expand shortened cards and copy the full record. Searching only one finish word can return different models and make a result appear to be a more suitable version of the same item when it is not.

Parse names before combining records

Separate model from finish, then retain exterior and variant. Do not reconstruct model identity from a tiny icon's silhouette when text is directly available. Across two sources, compare original records rather than only your shortened labels. Automatic joins need a confirmed source key or fully checked identity. One decorative word is insufficient even when images look similar. Keep original names beside your normalized fields so an incorrect grouping can be investigated.

A mixed-result example

A hypothetical finish-name query returns two different rifles. Your spreadsheet retains only finish and exterior, making the rows look identical. Restore the model field and regroup them; each offer now belongs to its correct set. Then assess palette separately across the different models. A shared general motif can look different because of surface shape. That is a valid visual comparison rather than evidence that the listings describe one interchangeable item.

Build an exact search record

FieldStorage approach
ModelComplete original designation
FinishSeparate name field
VariantPrefix retained
ExteriorOriginal parentheses preserved
LocalizationBeside the original title

Use weapon model and search name together in the finder, then read the candidate's full card. See localized identity checks for Russian and English names. Different models can be compared for a set, but not merged as one variant in price calculations.
