What happened
A message can display a shortened address while retaining a longer hyperlink target. Copying the visible preview is therefore different from copying the actual link. Inspect the pasted value before saving it. Literal ellipses, missing parameters, or a cut-off ending indicate a copying problem; they do not establish that Steam rejected the original address or that its owner needs a new account.
What to check
Return to your own Steam trade settings and copy the source directly. Paste into the private recipient field and compare its ending, partner, and token privately. If transferring between personal devices, check that the received text is complete. Avoid repairing a shortened preview by guessing characters. After saving, reload the profile to confirm that the complete value persisted, then perform the separate verification if the checker is available.
Worked example
For example, a message preview ends after the partner number, but its actual target includes a token. Selecting the preview text introduces dots instead of the hidden ending. Copying the link target may work, yet returning to Steam provides a clearer source when you doubt the message. Another app may split text at a special character, so compare the real pasted value instead of trusting how it looks in the chat.
Result and next step
Completion means a complete saved address without display ellipses, accepted format, and correct ownership. Live verification remains a separate result. Report the messaging app and whether you copied visible text or a target, redacting the token. Do not publish the full link in a public paste to work around preview formatting. Consult Steam trading information and CASECS2 guidance; private account settings should hold the recipient, while public troubleshooting describes the copying method.
