CASECS2 / Guides
Build a CS2 skin shortlist you can verify
Start with a comparable item, not the cheapest-looking number. A weapon finish, exterior and item variant need to match before two prices become a useful comparison.
What are you trying to choose?
An AK-47 skin I will actually use
Start with the weapon directory, then use the budget guide to compare candidates without assuming that a historical price is today's best deal.
A practical AWP shortlist
Keep the weapon fixed. Check the finish and exterior on each item page instead of relying on a similar thumbnail.
Understand FN, MW and FT
Learn the exterior labels before comparing prices. Your preferred appearance is a separate decision from the label.
Interpret a float value
Check an individual item's wear separately from its finish name. If a numeric float is unavailable, treat it as unknown.
Compare two candidates on the same basis
| Field | Match these details | Stop and clarify when |
|---|---|---|
| Exact name | Weapon, finish and ordinary / StatTrak™ / Souvenir variant | One source describes a different variant |
| Exterior | The full FN / MW / FT / WW / BS label | The label is missing or inferred from an image |
| Price | The currency and kind of value | An inventory valuation is compared with a live offer |
| Freshness | Observation date and offer availability | A historical observation is presented as current stock |
Make a short, checkable list
- Pick one weapon first
Choose a weapon you use regularly. Comparing two or three candidates for it is more useful than collecting dozens of unrelated finishes.
- Set an exterior and spending ceiling
Use the finder to select weapon, exterior and budget. Exterior is not rarity; do not substitute one label for the other.
- Open every candidate's item page
Check its complete name, image, exterior, currency and observation date. Do not invent a float or pattern detail that the record does not confirm.
- Recheck before acquiring an item
A reference observation can help with planning. An actual acquisition needs a current offer and a separate review of its conditions.
The finder currently has no confirmed live offers. Historical reference records are opt-in and use USD catalogue observations; they do not guarantee stock or purchase availability. An empty result does not mean the skin does not exist.
Source and scope
Valve's weapon-finishes documentation distinguishes the finish, pattern and wear. Detailed ranges belong in the existing guides; this page organises the checks you need to choose a candidate.
