Define the specific decision
Check the unit value, number of entries and overall total separately when comparing multiple scenarios.
For candidates relevant to “Separate an item's value from the inventory total”, use the skin finder. Keep this task separate from your broader inventory plan.
Read the worked example
Scenario A has one item at 40 fictional units and scenario B has three at 18 each; B totals 54 even though every individual row is below 40.
Record quantity even when most entries are single items. It reveals whether one chosen item is being compared with one alternative or with several separate items. Scenario B uses three times 18, which equals 54. Its difference from A is 14 fictional units. After checking the arithmetic, compare composition as well: three entries do not necessarily solve the same task as one accent. Rows representing alternatives for a single item are not added together before selection. State whether the displayed total includes every assigned entry. Never copy a card's unit value into a set-total field without checking quantity and the remaining rows.
| Entry | Interpretation |
|---|---|
| Scenario A | one times 40 equals 40 |
| Scenario B | three times 18 equals 54 |
| Total difference | 14 fictional units |
Use this task checklist
- Add a quantity to each row.
- Calculate the scenario total.
- Compare scenarios by their totals under matching conditions.
Recognise the failure condition
Choosing a set from its cheapest card while ignoring the remaining rows.
Each scenario shows both individual values and an independent overall total.
Apply the additional check
Scenario tables need matching boundaries: item-only values or a separately labelled broader calculation. If A shows one item while B also includes a reserve, their totals are not equivalent. Record quantity and inclusion status. An alternative stays nearby but has no participation in the selected composition, rather than a fictional zero price. After removing a row, recalculate and check that the old total has not remained in the scenario description, particularly when saving a screenshot after editing.
