Define the specific decision
Use the weapon as the main ordering rule and compare finishes and wear options within that group.
For candidates relevant to “Organise an inventory shortlist by weapon”, use the skin finder. Keep this task separate from your broader inventory plan.
Read the worked example
A sheet of twelve candidates is divided into four weapon groups; each shows the current item first and then two alternatives.
Weapon grouping should survive the addition of new candidates. If cards continually reorder by a global value, a current item can end up far from its alternatives. In the example, four groups contain three entries each: the current item and two new candidates. Label the current entry explicitly instead of relying on first position, which may change after sorting. Choose one internal ordering rule: personal score, wear or review date. Do not mix several unlabelled rules. A decision requires reviewing just one complete group. Completed groups can collapse while leaving the selected entry visible, making it easier to return to unresolved positions without rechecking the entire sheet.
| Entry | Interpretation |
|---|---|
| Four groups | one weapon in each |
| Three group rows | current item and two alternatives |
| Completed group | selected entry remains visible |
Use this task checklist
- Create a fixed group order.
- Put the current entry first.
- Sort alternatives by the chosen criterion inside their group.
Recognise the failure condition
Mixing weapons and wear options into one feed and losing the purpose of the comparison.
Each weapon group clearly shows its current item, alternatives and selected decision.
Apply the additional check
Use consistent labels inside a group: current, candidate A and candidate B. Letters identify comparison roles rather than positions in a global ranking. After deciding, add a selected status without changing every other group. If more than three options accumulate, archive rejected entries rather than expanding the main grid. Keep full wear and finish names during weapon searches, since grouping alone cannot prevent duplicates. Calculate totals from selected rows rather than every displayed alternative.
